Nestled along the scenic Konkan coastline near Devgad, the ancient Pokharbav Siddhivinayak Ganapati Temple is believed to date back to the era of the Pandavas. Today, it stands as one of the lesser-known yet fascinating attractions in the region. Conveniently located right beside the road, the temple is easy to spot—but what truly draws you in is its quiet mystery and deep-rooted spiritual significance.
According to local villagers, this is a Swayambhu (self-manifested) temple of Lord Ganesha. The idol was originally discovered at the base where three trees met, a spot considered highly sacred. As devotion grew and more pilgrims began visiting, a proper temple structure was gradually built with the support and contributions of devotees.
An equally intriguing story surrounds the presence of a Shivling here. It is said that a Brahmin devotee once had a divine vision in his dream, revealing that a Shivling lay beneath the temple. Acting on this vision, the area was explored, and remarkably, a natural groundwater spring along with a Swayambhu Shivling was discovered beneath the sanctum—further strengthening the temple’s spiritual aura.
🌿 A Temple Surrounded by Nature
The temple is beautifully embraced by nature, offering a calm and soothing environment that instantly puts you at ease. One of its most unique features is the natural spring flowing beneath the temple, which adds a serene and almost mystical charm to the place.
A traditional stone gokh (spout) has been crafted to channel this sacred water, similar to what you’ll find in many old temples across Maharashtra. The water is considered holy, and interestingly, you’ll also notice tiny fish swimming in the spring—often fed with prasada by the temple caretakers.
🚗 How to Reach
Reaching the temple is fairly simple by road:
- Drive along NH 66 towards the Devgad–Nipani highway
- Take a left turn towards Achra village
- The temple is located within Achra village, near Pokharbav
The roads are scenic, especially as you enter the Konkan belt—making the journey just as enjoyable as the destination.
