Our society gang is a fun-loving, slightly crazy group where both parents and kids get along like best friends. We make it a point to plan at least one trip together every year. This summer, we decided on Matheran, but instead of the usual car ride, we thought—why not make it more adventurous? So, we opted for a train journey, thinking it would be a fun experience for the kids too.
And what a trip it turned out to be! We ended up traveling by Deccan Queen, local trains, cabs, and even the good old S.T. buses. Public transport adventure at its best—it was a blast!
The only thing we missed was the famous mini-train from Nerul to Matheran. It was super crowded with a long queue for tickets, and the train’s frequency meant it would eat up a lot of our time. So, instead, we decided to walk along the train tracks from Nerul to Matheran. It turned out to be a fantastic idea—we had so much fun, and the kids loved every moment of it!
Situated in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra, Matheran is a charming hill station that offers a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
